"There were murmurings"

The children were upset. As the court says, "there were murmurings." The court continues:

Sophia spoke up, saying, "We will give you our share in the Sackett street property if you don't bother us about [that is, if you will not dispute our claim to an ownership in interest]the Atlantic avenue property ," and George assented. The Sackett street property was sold thereafter. [Sophia and George did not pay their the proceeds from the sale to the other children] This action is brought by the other three children against Sophia and George . . . to recover their proportionate share of the proceeds of that sale.
