Is there consideration?

Does this argument show that there is no consideration for Amoco's promise to sell gas to Laclede?

1.All Amoco got in exchange for its promise to sell was Laclede's promise what it requires. It could require nothing. In effect, it promised to buy if it wanted to.

2.Amoco did not give is promise to get Laclede's lack-of-any-genuine-commitment-promise to buy if it wants.

3.Therefore, there is no consideration for Amoco's promise to sell.

Yes, it shows that there is no consideration.

No, because premise (1) need not be true. Amoco could have gotten something else--another promise or performance--in exchange for its promise to besides Laclede's promise what it requires.
